Starwars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones

Synopsis of the events between Episode1 and Episode2:

In the ten years which followed the Naboo crisis, Chancellor Palpatine brought peace and prosperity to the Republic. The corruption which had affected the Senate has seemingly disappeared, but in fact the corruption remains and Palpatine has ensured his support by bribing high ranking officials (Orn Free Taa and Toonbuck Toora in particular). With their aid, and that of power-hungry organisations such as the Commerce guild and the Intergalactic Bank Clan, Palpatine ensures that his decisions are passed (from the Starwars: A New Hope Novelistaion: "Aided and abetted by restless, power hungry individuals within the government, and the massive organs of commerce, the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic").

Palpatine has now found a new apprentice, a renegade Jedi Master, Count Dooku whom he uses to lead a rebellion, thus enabling Palpatine to force the passage of a cloning bill in the Senate. Dooku is a master of manipulation and will prove key to the kownfall of the Jedi and Anakin by deceiving them. Futhermore, many of his actions lead to the mistrust of the population towards the Jedi. (Novelisation: "Having exterminated through treachery and deception the Jedi Knights...").

Meanwhile, on Naboo, Queen Amidala has been replaced by a new Queen, Jamillia, under control by Palpatine. Amidala is now Senator Naberrie, with Jar Jar Binks as her aide and representative of the Gungans. As for Anakin, he has become a strong apprentice, although at times, he is overly confident. Furthermore, there is talk of a political marriage between Padme and Bail Organa, something which makes Anakin very jealous.

As Episode2 begins, the Senate is about to begin debating the issue of cloning, something Amidala is opposed to. She heads off to Coruscant, escorted by Naboo fighters...

According to theForce.net, as of mid 2000, the opening scroll was as follows:

There is unrest in the Galactic Senate. Several hundred solar systems, under the leadership of the Rebel Leader, Count Dooku, have declared their intentions to secede from the Republic.

This separatist movement has made it difficult for the limited number of Jedi Knights to maintain peace and order in the galaxy.

Senator Amidala, the former Queen of Naboo, is returning to Coruscant to vote on the critical issue of creating an army to assist the overwhelmed Jedi...

Episode2 Scene Summary:

1) Senator Amidala, escorted by Captain Typho arrive on Coruscant. As the Royal Starship lands, it is suddenly attacked, and Padme's handmaiden, Corde, is killed. Word travels ahead that the Naboo envoy has been killed. However, Amidala was part of the flying escort, and survived the ambush.

2) The Chancellor sends 3 Jedi craft [Solar Flyers ?] to Geonasis to investigate and parley with Dooku. Two of the craft are destroyed, one makes it to its destination.

3) Chancellor's Office, hologram - Dar Wac (from the call sheets). Palpatine warns Dooku of the coming Jedi attack.

4) In the Senate, Amidala reveals that she was not harmed. The safety of the space lanes, and of the Coruscant approach in particular, is discussed : the blame is laid against Dooku. Amidala reports on the loss of the Jedi craft, and raises her concern over the speedy trials of cloning technology for an urgent army to fight Dooku's rebels.

5) The remaining Jedi task force is ambushed by super battledroids: few Jedi escape.

6) With Senator Orn Free Taa, his own personal aide, Uv Gizen, Senator Toonbuck Toora and others (Select 29), Palpatine covertly arranges for the cloning bill to be supported, and for his political opponents to be silenced.

7) The Jedi return to brief the Council and the Senate. They meet Amidala as the Senate votes on the clone bill, and demand an investigation of Geonosis. Suddenly, Zam Wassell fires on Amidala, but Corde is killed. The Senate is in uproar, and the vote is suspended. The Jedi pursue Zam as Amidala leaves, grieving for Corde.

8) The Jedi chase Wassel with speeders, through Coruscant, but they lose her near a nightclub. Using a Jedi mind-trick, they enter the club, 'Dexter's Diner', searching for her. A young trouble-maker, either Elian Sleazebagano or Boba Fett challenges them, but Anakin scares the boy away with his lightsabre, earning him a rebuke from Obi-wan. However, Zam tries to run away. The Jedi corner her and begin to interrogate her, but Jango Fett kills her with a Kyber dart.

9) Palpatine leads the Senate in mourning the believed assassination of Amidala>, and uses this to bring the clone bill to a speedy resolution. He continues to discredit the Jedi Order through Count Dooku's actions, and the inability of the Council to discipline one of their own.

10) In Padme's private apartments, Obi-wan and Anakin argue over the best course of action. Anakin believes Padme's life remains in danger, and wants to protect her. Obi-Wan reluctantly agrees to cover for him.

11) Chancellor Palpatine finally gains the wide agreement for the start of cloning an army to protect the Republic. Jar-Jar, amongst others, supports this move. Palpatine approaches Dooku's Kaminoan Advisor, Adave Dis'Frasado, to begin this process, secretly running parallel to the Jango-Clone program on Geonasis.

12) Anakin, Padme, R2 and Typho return to Naboo, and demand an audience with Queen Jamillia. She then secretly reports Amidala's presence to Palpatine. Meanwhile, Padme and Anakin visit her family.

13) Obi-Wan and Madame Jocastanu, a Jedi Academic, discuss Dooku and the Sith. He removes all scrolls for further discussion with the Council. In a Jedi Pantheon, they study the images of Dooku, a renegade Jedi and one of the 'Lost 20', famous Jedi who have disappeared under mysterious circumstances since the early days of the Order. They rediscover the Jedi lore on Darth Bane?

14) Obi-Wan is assigned to Kamino to oversee the early stages of the cloning.

15) Kamino is where the clones are manufactured. It is a planet covered almost entirely by water, and it rains all the time. All the "cities" are supported by columns that go underneath the water. The Kaminoans are very tall, and have a fin which runs from their head to their back. Obi-Wan walks with the Prime Minister and investigates the cloning process. There is a clone laboratory (thousands of giant testtubes), a clone hatchery (similar, but the clones are fully formed), clone barracks, a clone commissary for dining, and a clone classroom. There are thousands, maybe millions, of them here. Everything looks like a production line in a giant laboratory (as seen by the concept art on the official site).

16) Obi-Wan is introduced to the 'template', Jango Fett. He recognises Jango, and chases him.

17) The famous duel in the rain takes place between the two, with Boba firing Slave 1's guns. Jango escapes, but Obi-Wan attaches a tracking device to Slave 1.

18) Obi-Wan reports by hologram to Mace Windu.

19) Mace and Yoda agree to mount a Taskforce against Geonasis. Obi-Wan is ordered to rendezvous there.

20) Obi-Wan tries to contact Anakin and realises that the Padawan is either on Naboo or Tatooine.

21) Obi-Wan arrives on Geonasis, which is dominated by canyons, and giant stalagmite formations. These formations are hollowed out, and serve as towers ? The Lessers (who are like EpI battledroids) live here and live underneath the surface of this planet.

22) Obi-Wan scales one of these 'stalagmite' towers.

23) He reports to Palpatine that he has discovered the illegal manufacture of clones. The Chancellor agrees to send a Republic Taskforce to meet with the Jedi.

24) Anakin has a vision of his mother, and the three leave for Tatooine. They travel on a Naboo river boat. Suddenly they are attacked, but they manage to escape over the side, and make their way to a spaceport.

25) Arriving on Tatooine, they immediately travel to Mos Espa. There, they discover that Watto's shop is now under new management. Watto is working for Jabba.

26) They travel to Mos Eisley, and in a cantina they find and question Watto, learning that Shmi is now with Clieg Lars on the edge of the Dune Sea.

27) Obi-Wan orders Anakin to join him on Geonasis. The message also warns Anakin of Jango Fett's escape and possible destination.

28) Anakin and Padme arrive at the Lars farmstead, which has recently been raided by Tuskens, possiby instigated by Jango and Aurra Sing, under orders from Palpatine. Shmi has been carried off. However C3PO is present, as are Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun.

29) Anakin leaves Padme with Clieg and Owen, and goes off to rescue Shmi. Passing jawas give him directions. Padme and R2D2 complete C3PO with coverings.

30) Anakin catches up with the Tusken clan on a high massif, and in a blind rage kills all the sandpeople. However, Shmi is mortally wounded. He spends the night in the desert with her body.

31) Jango and Aurra attack the farmstead again, and Padme is kidnapped. Clieg is killed?

32) Anakin returns and finds Padme gone, he is angry with Owen, and they have an argument. Anakin leaves, vowing never to return.

33) On Geonasis, the Lessers organise Gladiatorial games in a giant arena, carved into the rock. Dooku, Jango and Nute Gunray are all in attendance to test the super battle droids and the clone army against the Jedi.

The Jedi discover Padme tied in an arena, awaiting the Reek. Mace Windu and Jango fight around the reek, until Mace beheads Jango, in front of his son Boba.

Dooku retreats to his stronghold. Anakin and the droids arrive, but find the planet surrounded by Federation Battle ships. A battle is taking place between Republic and Trade Federation ships, and Anakin has to fight his way through to the Planet.

34) Obi-Wan discovers a secret cloning facility in a cavern underneath, growing stormtroopers based on Jango Fett.

35) Padme is put in charge of a squadron of republic clone troopers fighting against the stromtroopers and all three types of battle droids. Anakin joins Obi-Wan in the cloning facility, where Dooku awaits them. Throughout the battle, Dooku taunts Anakin and tries to lure him to the darkside. He ensures Obi-Wan is cut off from Anakin.

36) Meanwhile, Ki Adi Mundi and Plo Koon lead 6 Jedi Knights on a raid into the orbiting heavily defended droid control ship : they stealthily enter and make their way to the bridge.

37)Ki-Adi Mundi manages to deactivate the droids.

38) Obi-Wan is reunited with Anakin after a while, however Anakin`s headstrong and brash style is causing Dooku to gain the upper hand with his calculated moves. In the end, Dooku manages to trap the two Jedi under some sort of crane. He cuts it down, and it falls on the Jedi.

39) With the Jedi trapped and Dooku appearing to have won the duel, the tables turn as Yoda enters the battle. Yoda uses the Force to push Dooku off the platform. Dooku realizes that he cannot do anything but run. He gets on his stellar sail ship and takes off.

40) After this, Dooku travels to Coruscant to meet with Darth Sidious and he informs his Master that the war has begun, according to Sidious' plans.

41) The atmosphere in the Jedi Council in their last scene is quite depressing and it is mentioned that the Jedi are left with a lot of casualties including members of the Jedi Council. Mace Windu, Yoda and Obi-Wan have a conversation about it. It seems that the only council members to make it to Episode III are Yoda, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, and Ki-Adi-Mundi.

42) Anakin secretly marries Padme on Naboo, against the Jedi code.

43) Meanwhile, on Coruscant, Palpatine, Jar Jar, Bail Organa and other dignitaries are watching the military staging arena with tens of thousand of clones being shipped to fight in the wars. Yoda gets what appears to be the last line in the film.

Personally, I can't wait, see you in May 2002!
